Barrows Armour when and where to use

March 23, 2007

Barrows armour is very good armour found as a common drop from the Barrows mini game chest, many people say it is a rare drop, read my Barrows guides and see how I change it from being a rare drop to a common drop.

The Armour has individual uses and I will list the main ones here, they all degrade and need repairing after about 15 hours of constant use, I repair it in my house I take 300k and have plenty of change when it is all repaired, if you have a NPC repair it for you it can work out rather expensive 330K I think.

I have all sets of Barrows armour and will get some screenies soon.

I will start with the cheapest, Karil, karil uses a 2 handed crossbow, in the barrow, fighting him he hits fast and hard and his shots can reduce your agility, losing agility is no big deal unless you use the shortcut to get to the temple on the Salve to pray between runs.

I only use his armour when fighting mage based monsters, Bloodvelds, Infernal mages, Aberrant Specters etc. I do not wear the coif as the Mind helmet has better mage defence, his crossbow has little use because bolt racks are dear and can only be won in barrows bought from an npc in the port Phasmytus (sp) or players, it is a popular weapon for the fight caves mini game.

Ahrims I never use the staff as the special reduces your opponents strength, when using mage I don’t get hit anyway so its pretty pointless. I wear it when doing slayer tasks that require mage to attack, metal dragons mainly, it is also the unofficial uniform for ancient mages.

Torag, Torags armour has the best defence of all in Runescape, the helmet is the most important part of the set as this has the greatest defence bonus compared to other melee armour, I never use the hammers they hit fairly hard but they are very slow and are 2 handed so you can not wear a shield, the special reduces run energy so may be useful in the wildy but not recommended as an attack means, full Torag with whip and rune defender is a mean setup.

Veracs, Veracs has become the main method of attacking the Kalphite Queen, this is because when the special happens it can ignore prayer and armour, the Kalphite Queen uses prayer so avoiding her prayer can deal a great deal of damage, Veracs is good for high defence monsters, I use it on the mole in Fally park quite successfully it is also very good for dueling in the duel arena, it can hit as if they have no armour on and is my main fear at the arena.

Dharoks, this can hit well hard, the melee defence is good and I have hit 65 unpotted at the portals in Pest Control, as your hp goes down your ability to hit hard increases, to get the most out of the special you are sitting on a knife edge and a few seconds lag can cause the loss of your helmet, it is rare to hit with the great axe but when you do it can be devastating, for xp and general fighting it is luck if you hit hard and not recommended, at duel arena Veracs will win 9 times out of 10 over great axe because it hits hard so rarely, so if you want to see big hits use great axe, if you want good xp use a whip.

Guthans, Guthans is great for uninterrupted training, the spear can hit as hard as a d scimmy but it is slow and 2 handed so you cant have a defender or a shield, the beauty of Guthans is its special takes the damage inflicted on your opponent and transfers it to you, I have hit 27 with it and healed at the same time giving the hp of 27 to me, this is more than any food available. its special like all barrows is intermittent and can be very frustrating waiting for it to heal you as your health keeps going down, some monsters you will need to take extra food just in case. its main use is for training slayer in hard to get places, you do not need to keep going to the bank for food.

Summary

Torags for good defence
Karils for good mage defence
Ahrims for using ancients, cosmetic no real use
Dharoks for high hits
Guthans for Prolonged training
Veracs for dueling or kalphite queen

Wow what an anchor

March 23, 2007

The Great Brain Robbery was a good quest I enjoyed it a lot, I was a bit disappointed by the anchor that is given as a prize, the best thing about the Barrelchest Anchor was the fact that it made you walk like you needed the toilet desperately, I tried and could not hit over 18 with it and it ended up buried in the depths of my bank.

After the initial fun with Jagex changing the stats and prices on a regular basis I thought I would try it again, I had Jungle Horrors for slayer so thought I would give it a try.

Off I went to Mos Le’Harmless super potted and started to attack them, 18 great 18 again 0 omg this is carp, 42 wtf 38, I was after the initial few kills amazed at the power of this anchor, I could hit a 42 with a weapon that cost 50k to have repaired, I switched back to the whip and rune defender and my max was 38 Ok the whip was a bit quicker but I now understand why the anchor is used for pking, it owns.

I am now trying to find ways to justify using my whip for anything but dragons and skeletal wyverns, I can see this being the main reason for the fall in the cost of whips, perhaps I ought to sell my 5 whips before the price plummets.

The Barrelchest anchor is designed to be used in defensive mode as the crush bonus is massive, I am 99 strength and attack so its ideal for me, aww I love my whip, I will need the test the Barrelchest a bit more before archiving my faithful whips.
